In the spring of 2018, I was offered the opportunity to work as a photographer for my high school, Birch Wathen Lenox. This required me to take and edit photos for use on the school website - I got shots of everything from students in class, to children on the school playground, to exterior shots of the building.
In the summer of my freshman year of high school, I got my first job. I worked at the Nantucket Bike Shop, a perfect fit for a summer gig considering my passion for cycling. I had never had a formal job with coworkers in a shop - it taught me a lot about how to handle a real job, responsibility, and how to work in a client-facing position.I spent the summer learning a lot about mechanics, watching professionals in the shop as they tuned and optimized bikes, and was able to develop friendships with my coworkers, who were also passionate cyclists.
As a Postmates courier, I had the responsibility of picking up, transporting, and delivering goods to customers. Orders come to me through an app on my phone where I can view the list of items as well as the pickup and drop-off point. I make deliveries on my bike for maximum efficiency and maneuverability, which means I get to spend time riding. I feel very lucky to have a job doing something I love - cycling.
